What is 'A Treasured Place'?

We're a brand new not-for-profit, 501(c)3, charitable organization (application in the works - stay tuned) working to help people reconnect with, and honor, those special people in their lives by generating/sharing little sparks of joy, love, encouragement, gratitude, or kindness.

We're a smaller part of a bigger idea (and charitable organization) working to 'Turn The Tide' and make the world a better place by refocusing on, and reprioritizing, the best parts of humanity - tolerance, kindness, generosity, love, charity, hope, joy, respect, responsibility, relationship, wonder, gratitude, creativity, courage, expression, honesty, etc.

What does A Treasured Place do?

We are carefully curating a collection of beautiful gift books (and other small token gifts) to offer our supporters to share with people special to them. These recipients are asked to take a short time to appreciate the recognition, and then to select another special friend of their own to pass on the gift to, and on & on in a progression of appreciation, and little sparks of joy.

If there is anything that feels better than receiving a gift of gratitude from someone special, it is passing along that gratitude and making someone else's day special too. That's why we say we're a group who is "Caring, Connecting, and Building Community, two smiles at a time!"

Where did the inspiration for A Treasured Place come from?

At our most fundamental level, humans need to feel seen, heard, accepted, loved and appreciated. In this busy, digital, too-often impersonal world today, these special moments of connection between two people often get missed, and the world needs much more genuine person-to-person connection.

In September 2023 our founder came across a charming little gift book, "More Than A Little" by author M.H. Clark, and beautifully illustrated by Cécile Metzger, that struck a chord and triggered an idea to send this gem to a special friend, then have that friend choose another special friend and pass it along in a hopefully long progression - touching several people over time, and reminding everyone who was included of all the good people out there that make the world a better place.

What is the mission of A Treasured Place?

Our mission is to help to "Turn The Tide" and help make the world a better place - a treasured place.

What are A Treasured Place's goals?

We've just gotten started, and have already launched over 15 books to special friends of our own, and are currently putting together the pieces we'll need to offer up affordable options to our supporters to launch our little sparks of joy to their own friends and beyond. In January, 2024 we took our first paying orders to launch books.

If every book (even modestly) only made its way to another 10 people, we know the goodwill generated will begin to make a small difference to making this world a better place. We intend that we can get to a place within the first couple years where at least 1000 books will be launched every year.

While the books and other gift options will only generate a small contribution above the costs to source, package, & initially launch, we hope to generate enough awareness to go after grants and begin collecting donations (individuals & corporate) to support our operations, and, more importantly, grow an endowment fund to support other random acts of kindness where they are needed. While we're still brand new, our goal is an ambitious $500,000.

How can I help?

We are just getting underway, but we hope to offer the following options to participate in our efforts:

1) Launch your own 'little spark of joy, gratitude, encouragement, etc.' via our ecommerce website (currently under construction - stay tuned). We'll feature several small gift books, huggable stuffed animals, candles, tea cups - things to share a special moment with your friend (in person or across the miles via mail).

2) Use the convenient affiliate links on our ecommerce site to purchase your own or additional copies of books, or select other gift items.

3) Make a donation to our cause (we're hoping to launch a Go Fund Me campaign to help cover our initial administrative & developmental start-up costs - then to split between our modest operating costs and contributing to our growing endowment fund.) Or, use the links (coming soon) on our website to conveniently make a monetary donation.

4) Help us spread the word, tell a friend or two - we'll be launching social media pages on at least a few of the popular platforms in the near future and employing some key hash tags so we can hopefully see how our goodwill is spreading.

6) And it should go without saying, just be a good person - take time out to recognize & acknowledge special people who you think make the world a better place. Whether you use our team to help or not, let's all work to make the world a better, friendlier place.
